Energy Saving Tips For Your

Kansas City Home or Business

Installing a renewable energy system is only the beginning of what you can do in your Kansas City home or business to help conserve energy.  Below are additional hints and tips you can do to affect your carbon footprint and save additional money on your energy bills.

  • Check insulation levels in attics and exterior walls.  Too little insulation can allow heating and cooling to escape, which will cause your systems to run excessively

  • Look for holes or cracks in walls, ceilings, windows, doors, light and plumbing fixtures, as well as switches and electrical outlets to see where air can escape

  • Make sure your heating and cooling systems are properly maintained each season

  • Look for ways to use lighting controls—dimmers, timers and auto sensors—in rooms where lighting is frequently on

  • Replace standard incandescent lightbulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs

  • When replacing appliances, always look those that are Energy Star® qualified

  • A dirty filter can damage your air conditioner, so check and replace your filter monthly

  • Use ceiling fans to circulate air and cool your home instead of using your air conditioner

  • Instead of just turning off your unused electronics, unplug them. Electronics that are turned off can still use up to 40% of their total electricity consumption to power remotes and clocks while turned off

  • Installing faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads can not only save your water consumption, but also cut your water heating bills by up to 50%
